Where is it? About Stewart Island and Why it's worth a visit? Recommended dive sites? Stewart Island Gallery? Local operators? Stewart Island Web Sites and further reading?
Stewart Island is the third largest island in New Zealand and is situated right off the southern coast of the South Island. The nearest large town is Invercargill. Ferries leave from Bluff for the brave (or fool hardy!) and flights leave from Invercargill. See Foveaux Ferry & Stewart Island Flights. websites.
About Stewart Island and Why it's worth a visit.
Stewart Island is one of the last true wilderness regions close to the New Zealand main land. Only a small area of the island is developed and the rest is totally wild. There are no roads to the majority of the island so the only way to explore the area is by boat.
The underwater world around the island is unusual and untouched plus the views and landscape on the surface are some of the most stunning in the world.
Sea Things Favorite Dive Sites
There are many options for diving along all the coasts of the island but the sights are very weather effected. It's a must to dive amongst the giant kelp and the rocky reefs.
It's common to sea Southern Pig Fish, Sea Horses, Spotties, Blue Cod, Small Sharks, Conger Eels, Barracuda, Trumpeter, Blue Moki and many strange invertebrates whilst diving.
Most of our diving has been in Port Pegasus and along the East coast of the island.
